Vedrana Subotic is a distinguished Croatian-American pianist and educator, currently serving as a Professor-Lecturer of Music at the University of Utah’s School of Music and Visiting Professor of Piano at the University of Chile. She is also a Steinway Artist since 2003, President of the World Piano Teachers Association USA, and Music Director of the INTERMEZZO concert series in Salt Lake City since 2002. Her career spans international performance, pedagogy, and administrative leadership.
- Born in Kotor, Montenegro (now Serbia), Subotic earned five performance degrees: a Bachelor of Music from the University of Belgrade, a Master of Music from Michigan State University, an Artist Diploma and Doctor of Music from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, and a Teaching Residency at the Las Palmas Conservatory via the Erasmus Foundation (2024).
Subotic’s research and creative work focus on piano performance, chamber music, and pedagogical innovation. She has performed over 500 works globally, including complete cycles of Beethoven’s piano sonatas, trios, and concertos, as well as pieces by Brahms, Chopin, Prokofiev, and Debussy. Her 2014 project to perform all 60 Beethoven piano sonatas, trios, and duos has been presented at venues like the Bolshoi Theater (Moscow), Woolsey Hall (Yale), and Steinway Hall (NYC).
Her scientific awards include the Steinway Artist designation, University of Utah’s Faculty Recognition Award (2018), and a 2024 Erasmus Foundation Teaching Residency. She has secured 14 grants from the University of Utah’s Teaching Committee, Dee Council, and Fine Arts and Fees committee for initiatives like the Guest Artist Piano Masterclasses Series and the live-streaming concert series Live@Libby.
- Career Highlights: Founded the Intermezzo Piano Trio; directed the Liszt Festival and Competition; created the Teacher Development Seminars (2015–present); and mentored award-winning students accepted to institutions like the Royal College of Music and Yale University.
- Performance & Teaching: Maintains an active schedule with ~60 annual engagements, teaching piano literature, pedagogy, and career development. Students have performed at Carnegie Hall and earned scholarships to programs in Salzburg, London, and Texas.
