Vathsala Mohan

Vathsala Mohan serves as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, School of Biomedical Sciences, at The University of Western Australia. She concurrently holds an external research position at CSIRO - Health and Biosecurity since June 2023, focusing on health security and antimicrobial resistance.

Her research centers on bacterial antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, particularly multidrug resistance and horizontal gene transfer in foodborne pathogens like Campylobacter. Key interests include epidemiology of bloody diarrhea-causing infections, zoonotic disease transmission, and genomic drivers of resistance. This work directly supports UN Sustainable Development Goals for health and food safety.

Dr. Mohan's recent publication analyzes antimicrobial resistance trends in Campylobacter species, emphasizing clinical implications of resistance gene transfer between veterinary and human pathogens. Her research bridges veterinary medicine and public health, highlighting urgent needs for surveillance and intervention strategies against antibiotic-resistant infections.
