Kevin Cummings, DVM, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Public & Ecosystem Health at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. His research focuses on the epidemiology of Salmonella and other foodborne pathogens across diverse hosts, including dairy cattle, wild birds, and feral pigs, to improve food safety and animal health while addressing antimicrobial resistance.
- Ph.D. in Comparative Biomedical Sciences (Epidemiology), Cornell University, 2010
- DVM, Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, 1996
- Bachelor of Arts in Biology, Kenyon College, 1992
His work bridges veterinary medicine, public health, and microbial pathogenesis, emphasizing zoonotic transmission dynamics and the One Health framework. He has contributed to understanding the ecology of Salmonella outbreaks, fecal shedding patterns, and antimicrobial resistance trends. His articles explore topics like Campylobacter in shelter dogs, Cryptosporidium in wildlife, and Trypanosoma cruzi in feral swine.
- Editorial Advisory Board, Preventive Veterinary Medicine, 2015–present
- Biosafety and Biosecurity Section Oral Presentation Award, CRWAD, 2008
He has held academic roles at Texas A&M University (2011–2017) and the University of Minnesota (2009–present, Adjunct Instructor). His collaborations span microbial pathogenesis, immunology, and veterinary clinical research.
