Vasso Apostolopoulos is a Distinguished Professor and Head of the Healthy Lifespan and Chronic Diseases Program at RMIT University's School of Health and Biomedical Sciences in Melbourne, Australia. She holds leadership roles in immunology research, including Program Director at the Australian Institute for Musculoskeletal Science and former Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research at Victoria University. Her expertise spans immunology, x-ray crystallography, and translational medicine, with a focus on vaccines, drug development, and chronic disease interventions.
Education: PhD in Immunology from the University of Melbourne (1995). Prior roles include leadership at institutions like the Burnet Institute and the Austin Research Institute, as well as industry roles as Chief Scientific Officer at 4Gvaccines. She has over 500 peer-reviewed publications, 20 patents, and has mentored ~70 graduate students.
Research Interests: Developing vaccines/drugs for cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and infectious diseases; leveraging AI for healthcare innovation; pandemic preparedness via the ELPanvir consortium. Awards include Young Australian of the Year and recognition by Times magazine as a top diaspora Greek scientist.
Collaboration Availability: Open to industry projects, student supervision (Masters/PhD), advisory roles, and media engagements. Active on editorial boards and community initiatives like the Greek Australian Society and Wyndham Committee.
