Vassiliki Benetou

Vassiliki Benetou is a Professor in the Department of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Medical Statistics at the School of Medicine, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Greece. A registered Pediatrician, she holds an MSc in Epidemiology from Harvard School of Public Health and a PhD in Epidemiology from NKUA.

Her educational background includes medical training (MD), a Master of Science in Epidemiology from Harvard, and doctoral studies in Epidemiology at NKUA. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses covering epidemiology-research methodology and preventive medicine-public health.

Dr. Benetou's research centers on chronic disease epidemiology, nutritional epidemiology, and public health nutrition across the lifespan. She has significantly contributed to national dietary guidelines for infants, children, pregnant and lactating women, integrating lifespan nutrition with chronic disease prevention frameworks. Her work bridges epidemiological methods with practical public health applications.

She served as Deputy Director (2018-2022) of NKUA's Postgraduate program in Epidemiology and Research Methodology. As a core member of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Nutrition and Health, she actively participates in European/national research projects. Her institutional roles include membership in NKUA's Centre of Continuing Education Council and representation in CIVIS University's Health Hub.
