Vasiliki Neofotistos

Vasiliki Neofotistos is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York (SUNY Buffalo), and Co-Director of the MA in Anthropology and Law program. She holds academic affiliations within the College of Arts and Sciences, focusing on critical anthropological research in Eastern Europe and the Balkans.

Education: PhD from Harvard University, MSt from Oxford University, and BA from Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences.

Her research explores political anthropology, the anthropology of war and peace, and the intersection of social science with policy-making. Key themes include identity politics in the Balkans, conflict management, post-conflict stabilization, and democracy-building strategies. She has conducted fieldwork in the Republic of North Macedonia, examining topics like nationalism, transitional justice, and EU citizenship dynamics.

Awards include a National Endowment for the Humanities grant (2021–2022) for a veterans' belonging project. She teaches courses on war studies, memory politics, and graduate-level social anthropology.

Her advisory and grant work includes collaborative projects on veterans' integration and transitional justice mechanisms. She contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives linking anthropology with legal and policy frameworks.
