Dr. Vasanthi Venkatesh is a Professor of Law at the University of Windsor's Faculty of Law, specializing in human rights law, systemic racism, and migrant labour rights. Her work focuses on legal mobilization strategies for marginalized groups, particularly migrant farmworkers and Dalit communities. She leads research projects addressing neo-colonial racial capitalism, temporary foreign worker policies, and the intersections of caste and citizenship.
Her research extends to global legal frameworks, analyzing how states construct citizenship through exclusionary policies like India's Hindutva ideology. She has spearheaded initiatives like the Transnational Law and Justice Network, which prioritizes public education and high-impact litigation. Notable contributions include examining marital rape impunity across jurisdictions and mobilization tactics among undocumented immigrants.
Dr. Venkatesh has secured grants for projects investigating systemic racism faced by migrant farmworkers in Canada. Her work bridges academic research with community advocacy, addressing both structural inequities and grassroots resistance strategies. She frequently participates in interdisciplinary panels discussing critical legal issues such as the Windsor blockade's socio-economic impacts and the Rohingya crisis.
