Vanessa MacDonnell is an Associate Professor at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law (Common Law Section) and Co-Director of the uOttawa Public Law Centre. She holds a J.D. from Toronto, LL.M. from Harvard, and is pursuing doctoral studies at McGill University.

Her research focuses on Canadian constitutional law, executive powers, unwritten constitutional norms, and quasi-constitutional legislation, employing doctrinal, comparative, and empirical methodologies. She has led SSHRC-funded projects and co-leads a $1.7M international interdisciplinary study on unwritten constitutional principles.
She has held visiting research fellowships at Oxford, Melbourne Law School, Max Planck Institute, University of the Witwatersrand, and King's College London. Her teaching includes criminal law, constitutional law, administrative law, and seminars on the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
