Vanessa Lawrence is the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) Professor of Qualitative Health Research at King's College London, affiliated with the Health Service & Population Research Department. Her work focuses on participatory action research, mental health interventions, and qualitative methodologies. She leads projects on eating disorders, motor neuron disease care, and peer researcher involvement in NHS studies. Key collaborations include the DAISIES RCT on anorexia nervosa treatment models and the COMMEND trial exploring Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for motor neuron disease patients.
Her research spans 110+ peer-reviewed articles and 30 active/funded projects, including grants from NIHR and Wellcome Trust. Notable contributions include evaluating recovery colleges, digital health interventions, and improving mental health service access for marginalized groups. Lawrence's work addresses global health disparities, particularly in Ethiopia, and emphasizes ethical, participant-led methodologies in qualitative research.
