Dr. Vanessa Künnemann is an Assistant Professor and Research Associate in the Department of North American Studies at the University of Göttingen, where she also coordinates degree programs. Her academic journey includes roles at the University of Hannover (2002-2012) and the University of Paderborn (2012-2013). She holds a Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Hannover (2013), focusing on Pearl S. Buck's work. Her research interests span Ethnic Studies (particularly Asian American Studies), Gender Studies, Middlebrow Studies, and the representation of the Financial Crisis in American literature. She has authored influential monographs like Middlebrow Mission: Pearl S. Buck's American China (2015) and co-edited volumes on transnational themes. Dr. Künnemann has organized major conferences on topics like trans-Pacific interactions and cultural distinctions, reflecting her commitment to interdisciplinary research.
