Valérie HERVIEUX is an Assistant Professor at the School of Industrial Relations, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, University of Montreal. Her research focuses on improving worker well-being through interventions targeting psychosocial and individual risk factors in occupational settings. She is affiliated with the VITAM Research Center and the Observatory on Health and Well-being at Work. Her teaching includes occupational health and safety management, blending academic rigor with practical applications.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Health Teaching (2016) from Université Laval
- Master’s in Kinesiology (Université Laval)
- Doctorate in Administrative Sciences specializing in Occupational Health (Université Laval, 2019–2022)
Research Interests: Hervieux’s work addresses workplace health promotion, psychosocial risk factors, and the impact of physical activity on presenteeism and stress. She pioneered the concept of 'active meetings' using stationary bicycles to enhance well-being without compromising productivity. Her recent studies analyze pandemic effects on workplace health behaviors and expand frameworks like the Health-Performance Model to contextualize presenteeism. She emphasizes gender-inclusive approaches in cardiovascular disease research linked to work environments.
Publications: Her work spans journals in ergonomics, public health, and occupational science. Key themes include presenteeism mitigation through physical activity, longitudinal insights on workplace stress, and innovative interventions like active meetings. Ongoing projects include developing a virtual consultant tool with inpowr to address psychosocial risks and a systematic review integrating gender perspectives.
Grants and Advising: Co-funded by MITACS Inc. for her virtual consultant project. Actively recruiting master’s and PhD students interested in deepening research competencies in occupational health and workplace well-being. Her research bridges theoretical insights and practical knowledge transfer strategies.
