Dr. Valesca Lima is an Assistant Professor of Politics at Dublin City University's School of Law and Government. Her research focuses on policymaking and governance with three primary areas: citizen participation, housing policy, and social mobilisation. She has secured significant research funding from the Irish Research Council, Science Foundation Ireland, and Erasmus+.
Research Interests: Comparative politics, governance, housing justice, political participation, democratic innovations, citizen social science, and social movements. Her work examines housing financialisation, rights struggles, and policy innovations for democratic housing systems, with emphasis on citizen inclusion at sub-national levels.
Publication Focus: Lima's recent articles (2021-2025) demonstrate consistent focus on housing justice, participatory governance, and policy analysis across international contexts. Her work frequently employs comparative methodologies examining Ireland, Portugal, Brazil, and broader EU policy frameworks.
Leadership & Projects: Serves as co-Editor of the International Review of Public Policy and co-convenor of the PSAI's Participatory Democracy Specialist Group. Leads multiple funded projects including SHINE (Climate Resilience and Sustainable Housing), ERASMUS+ KA220-HED, and research on migrant housing needs.
Advising & Teaching: Currently supervises PhD students Nithya Kothenmaril and Sara Mengato. Teaches Qualitative Research Methods, Comparative Politics, Governance, and Housing Policy.
