Prof. Dr. Claudia Landwehr is a Professor of Political Theory and Public Policy at the Institute of Political Science, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Her research focuses on democratic theory, political representation, institutional design, and citizen expertise. She leads research projects such as 'False consensus assumptions in politics' and 'Experience-based knowledge in democratic governance.' Her work examines procedural preferences, elite and citizen conceptions of democracy, and the interplay between technocracy and populism. She advises ongoing doctoral projects and collaborates on initiatives like the Resilient Institutions Graduate Research Group.
Key research areas include democratic legitimacy, deliberative democracy, and the psychological dimensions of political engagement. Recent publications analyze depressive symptoms’ impact on democratic trust, legislative process preferences, and comparative studies on institutional design. She emphasizes participatory governance and the challenges posed by populist movements to democratic norms.
