Valerie Voon

Dr. Valerie Voon serves as Professor of Neuropsychiatry and Neuromodulation in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Cambridge and holds a Distinguished Professor position at Fudan University, Shanghai.

Her research investigates the neurocognitive mechanisms of self-control, compulsivity, emotional processing, and incentive valuation, with primary focus on addiction and compulsive behavioral disorders. The laboratory identifies modifiable physiological biomarkers to optimize invasive and non-invasive neuromodulation therapies, developing real-time adaptive treatment approaches through highly translational work.

Dr. Voon leads a UK-wide Medical Research Council study examining deep brain stimulation for addiction treatment, integrating multimodal methodologies including neuroimaging, physiological monitoring, pharmacological challenges, cognitive neuroscience paradigms, and computational modeling.

Her research group pioneers therapeutic innovations targeting severe psychiatric conditions through the intersection of clinical neuroscience, neuromodulation engineering, and computational psychiatry.
