Dr. Valerie Legge is a Full Professor in the Department of English at Memorial University of Newfoundland, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. She holds a Ph.D., M.A., B.Ed., and B.A., all from Memorial University. Her research focuses on Canadian literature, women’s literature, critical theory, aboriginal studies, and travel literature, with particular emphasis on early 20th-century exploration narratives and pioneering women writers like Agnes C. Laut.
Dr. Legge’s teaching spans undergraduate and graduate courses such as North American Aboriginal Literature, Women Writers, and Contemporary Critical Theory. She has developed innovative courses recognized for integrating technology in pedagogy, earning the 2016 CNIE-RCIE Award. Her research includes a critical biography of Agnes C. Laut and an edited collection of Laut’s correspondence, both under contract with the University of Alberta Press.
