Valerie Chappe is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at Dalhousie University's Faculty of Medicine. Her research focuses on cystic fibrosis (CF), specifically the role of vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), ion channel dysfunction, and CFTR trafficking. She leads the CHAPPE Lab, collaborating on molecular mechanisms and therapeutic strategies for respiratory diseases.
Education: BSc, MSc, and PhD from University of Aix-Marseille II and University of Provence (France).
Research Interests: Cystic fibrosis pathophysiology, VIP signaling in respiratory health, CFTR correction in epithelial cells, and CF-related diabetes. Collaborations include drug screening and epidemiological studies.
Awards: CIHR New Investigator Award (2006-2011), CFI Leaders Opportunity Fund (2007), and DMRF New Investigator Award (2005). Active in professional societies like the American Physiological Society and Canadian Society of Biochemistry.
Labs/Teams: Atlantic CFTR Group, focusing on CFTR dysfunction and therapeutic development. Collaborations with PhaseBio Pharmaceuticals Inc. and advocacy work with patients like Campbell Brown, a youth fundraiser for CF research.
