Valentine Cunningham is a Professor of English Language & Literature at the University of Oxford, serving as Chair of the English Faculty since 1984. He has held multiple roles at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, including Fellow, Tutor, Senior Research Fellow, Dean, and Vice-President. His academic career spans visiting professorships at institutions such as Konstanz University, Massachusetts University, and Freiburg University. A prominent figure in literary studies, his research focuses on Shakespeare, British poetry and fiction (Victorian to modern), literary theory, and the cultural impact of the Spanish Civil War.
- Education: Undergraduate and graduate studies at Keble College, Oxford (1963-9).
