Valentina S. Harizanov

Valentina S. Harizanov is a Professor of Mathematics at George Washington University (GW). She served as co-director of the GW Center for Quantum Computing, Information, Logic and Topology from 2011 to 2018. In Fall 2020, she was an Eisenbud Professor at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI) in Berkeley, and in 2014, a Visiting Professor at the Kurt Gödel Research Center of the University of Vienna. She has received prestigious awards, including the Oscar and Shoshana Trachtenberg Prize for Faculty Research (2016) and the George Washington Award (2020).

Her research focuses on mathematical logic, computability theory, computable model theory, and theoretical computer science. Key areas include computable algebra, algorithmic complexity of algebraic structures, and effective methods in model theory. Recent work explores cohesive powers of structures, computable isomorphism problems, and applications of logic to quantum computing and algebraic fields.
