Valentina Nisi is a tenured Associate Professor of Design Thinking at the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon, and holds an Adjunct Faculty position at Carnegie Mellon University's Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) Institute. She is also a founding researcher at the Interactive Technologies Institute (ITI LARSyS). Her work bridges Interactive Digital Storytelling, Gaming, and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), focusing on sustainability, climate change, and cultural heritage preservation. She leads interdisciplinary projects like Bauhaus of the Seas Sails (climate neutrality solutions) and LoGaCulture (digital locative games for cultural institutions).
Research Interests: Her research combines Research-through-Design with post-humanistic perspectives to address environmental and social challenges. Projects include Periodic Fable (gamifying chemistry education) and MEMEX (digital storytelling for heritage). She explores how technology can foster empathy, critical thinking, and action toward climate resilience.
