University of Picardie Jules Verneمعرفی
Valentina Bisconti is a University Professor at the University of Picardy Jules Verne (UPJV), specializing in Romance linguistics with a focus on the history and epistemology of modern and contemporary linguistic theories. She serves as the elected head of the Department of Language Sciences since 2020 and directs the PraLing research team (Linguistic Practices: Systems, Institutions, Transmissions), which she co-founded. As a full member of CERCLL (Center for the Study of Linguistic and Literary Relations and Contacts) since 2012 and associate member of UMR 7597 CNRS HTL (History of Linguistic Theories) at Université Paris Cité, she maintains strong connections across French linguistic research institutions.
Professor Bisconti's research focuses on three interconnected areas: lexical models and problems of meaning in synchrony and diachrony (including linguistic change, synonymy, neology, theories of definition); grammatical traditions of Romance languages with emphasis on dictionaries and emergence of metalanguages; and the invention of traditions and vulnerability of linguistic heritage. Her work bridges historical linguistics, lexicology, semantics, and the history of linguistic thought, with particular attention to French and Italian linguistic traditions.
Analysis of her recent publications (2017-2023) reveals a consistent focus on the history of linguistic theories, lexicography, and semantic studies. Her work frequently examines 19th century linguistic thought, Tullio De Mauro's contributions, and the evolution of dictionary-making practices. The publications demonstrate interdisciplinary engagement with literary studies, historical linguistics, and philosophical approaches to language.
- Expert for the National Fund for Scientific Research (FNRS) - Belgium (since 2022)
- Member of the CAPES jury for modern literature (2014-2018, 2021-2022)
- Elected member of the HCÉRES experts committee for evaluation of academic programs (since 2019)
- Member of the Local Pedagogical Committee for the Network Skills License implementation
Professor Bisconti currently supervises 7 doctoral theses (including 2 co-supervisions) and has guided 10 Master's research dissertations. Her supervision focuses on history and epistemology of linguistic theories, lexicology, and grammatical theory. She teaches courses ranging from History and typology of languages to Old French and Diachronic linguistics across undergraduate and graduate levels.
As director of the PraLing research team, she leads initiatives examining linguistic practices across different systems, institutions, and transmission contexts, creating synergies between theoretical linguistics and practical language applications.
