Valentina Alfonsi

Valentina Alfonsi is an Associate Professor at UniCamillus University, specializing in General Psychology. She is also a licensed Psychologist and Psychotherapist registered with the Lazio Psychologists Board, actively engaged in both clinical practice and academic research.

Her research focuses on the neurophysiological aspects of sleep, particularly electroencephalographic (EEG) patterns under normal and pathological conditions. She investigates how variations in sleepiness and vigilance affect attentional and cognitive performance across diverse populations and real-world settings such as educational and occupational environments. Her interdisciplinary work bridges cognitive neuroscience, clinical psychology, and psychophysiology.

Dr. Alfonsi has contributed to numerous publications in high-impact international scientific journals and has collaborated with multiple research groups throughout her career. She earned her Ph.D. in Psychology and Cognitive Science from the University of Rome “Sapienza,” with a dissertation on modulating sleepiness through transcranial electrical stimulation. She further advanced her expertise through research at the Sleep Psychophysiology Laboratory led by Prof. Luigi De Gennaro.

She has obtained the National Scientific Qualification for the role of Associate Professor in the Italian academic sectors 11/PSIC-01 (General Psychology, Neuropsychology, Cognitive Neurosciences, Psychometrics) and 11/PSIC-04 (Clinical Psychology and Dynamic Psychology), affirming her national academic standing.

Currently, she works as a self-employed psychologist and psychotherapist while continuing to conduct and publish research on the interplay between sleep, vigilance, and human performance.
