Dr. Valdir F. Novello is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute of Geosciences, University of Tübingen, Germany, where he is affiliated with the Climatology and Biosphere Working Group within the Geo- and Environmental Research Centre (GUZ). His research focuses on reconstructing paleoclimate using stalagmites and other cave records, with expertise spanning cave monitoring, environmental geochemistry, archaeology, paleomagnetism, and atmospheric science. Through stable isotope analysis, paleomagnetic studies, and multi-proxy approaches, he examines how tropical and subtropical South American climate has varied in response to orbital forcing, solar activity, and other climate drivers. His recent research has revealed unprecedented modern drought conditions in Central Brazil and documented the spatiotemporal dynamics of the Intertropical Convergence Zone over the past three millennia.
Dr. Novello is an active contributor to the SISAL (Speleothem Isotopes Synthesis and Analysis) working group, having co-authored papers on SISALv2 and SISALv3 - comprehensive global databases of speleothem stable isotope records. His methodological expertise includes cave monitoring systems, stable isotope geochemistry, paleomagnetic analysis, and high-resolution environmental magnetism using advanced techniques like the Quantum Diamond Microscope. His publication record demonstrates significant research productivity, with numerous papers in high-impact journals including Nature Communications, Earth and Planetary Science Letters, and Quaternary Science Reviews.
