Her work bridges marketing theory with practical applications in digital environments, examining how marketing systems interact with provisioning systems, especially in New Zealand's transition toward carbon neutrality through distributed energy resources.
Her scholarly output demonstrates consistent engagement with contemporary digital challenges, addressing cybersecurity threats, misinformation spread, and the societal impacts of emerging technologies. Recent publications reveal a sophisticated understanding of how institutional contexts shape technological adoption and user behavior in complex systems.
Professor Hooper serves as a Senior Editor for Information Systems Management and an Associate Editor for Electronic Markets. She is also a member of the Education Committee of Imitatio Inc, an organization focusing on mimetic theory funded by Peter Thiel.
As an educator, she teaches across the marketing curriculum including Principles of Marketing, Brand Management, and Marketing for Social Good, with teaching assignments scheduled through 2026. She has supervised numerous graduate students and maintains active doctoral supervision on topics including lawfare impacts on consumers and metaverse consumer practices. Between 2010-2014, she served as Head of the School of Information Management while continuing her marketing-related research.
Her current research includes the WSBG-FSRG project on distributed generation and electricity market systems (2023-2026), examining New Zealand's transition to sustainable energy infrastructure. This work reflects her commitment to addressing real-world challenges through rigorous academic inquiry.
