Vahid Sadeghian is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carleton University, affiliated with the Faculty of Engineering and Design. He holds a B.A.Sc. from the University of Tehran and both M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Toronto. Dr. Sadeghian leads the Concrete Structures Research Group, focusing on advanced simulation methods for performance assessment of reinforced concrete structures.
His research interests center on:
- Design and performance assessment of reinforced/prestressed concrete structures
- Hybrid numerical-experimental simulation techniques
- Nonlinear finite element analysis of structures under extreme loads
- Repair and rehabilitation of concrete infrastructure
- Behavior of modern concrete materials (FRC, S-C composites)
- Multi-hazard resilience of infrastructure systems
Dr. Sadeghian's publications demonstrate consistent focus on computational mechanics of concrete structures, particularly addressing seismic performance, blast resistance, and novel modeling methodologies. His recent work emphasizes hybrid simulation techniques, 3D-printed concrete applications, and performance-based design methodologies.
He leads a research group with access to advanced facilities at Carleton's Minto Centre, including:
- 11m x 27m strong floor with 11m clearance
- Four 6-DOF shake tables
- ±1000 kN dynamic actuators
- Hybrid simulation capabilities
