Vadim Zharnitsky is a Professor and Associate Chair for Instruction in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). He holds additional affiliations with the Coordinated Science Lab. His primary research interests focus on dynamical systems, nonlinear waves, and Hamiltonian dynamics with applications in applied mathematics and mathematical physics.
Education:
- PhD in Applied Mathematics, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 1996
His recent research explores boundary between pure and applied mathematics, including studies on whispering gallery orbits in oscillator traps and critical points of Strichartz functionals. Over 20 years of academic service includes curriculum development and supervision of graduate programs. Active in both pure and applied research areas such as nonlinear wave equations and control theory applications.
Awards and recognitions are not explicitly listed in the provided materials. Current teaching responsibilities include Math 403: Euclidean Geometry (Spring 2024). Maintains active collaboration through Illinois Experts profile and MathSciNet publications listings.
