VANESA ORTEGA LOPEZ

Vanesa Ortega Lopez is a Full Professor in the Area of Mechanics of Continuous Media and Theory of Structures at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Burgos (UBU). She has held this position since 2008 after serving as an Adjunct Professor since 2004. She is Head of the Sustainable Construction Research Group (SUCONS) and a member of the Consolidated Research Unit UIC-231 of the Junta de Castilla y León.

Her research focuses on sustainable construction materials, specifically the reuse of industrial by-products like steel slags in civil engineering applications. She has collaborated internationally, including a postdoctoral stay at the University of Padua (2021) and teaching as a visiting professor in the Master's Degree in Environmental Engineering. SUCONS group is affiliated with Eco-H (sustainable concretes) and RILEM (International Union of Laboratories and Experts in Construction Materials).

She has supervised four doctoral theses and contributed to over 3,500 teaching hours across university courses. She leads the Teaching Innovation Group "Transition from High School to University" and has managed 25 competitive research projects and contracts. Her scientific output includes numerous JCR-indexed articles, book chapters, patents, and conference presentations, with nearly 3,000 citations and an h-index of 32 (Scopus).

She coordinates Erasmus agreements with the University of Tras-os-Montes and Alto Douro (Portugal, since 2005) and the University of Padua (Italy, since 2017).
