Roberto Serrano Lopez

Roberto Serrano Lopez is a Permanent Professor at the Higher Polytechnic School of the University of Burgos, Spain, affiliated with the Department of Civil Engineering and the Sustainable Construction Research Group (SUCONS). He holds membership in the Consolidated Research Unit UCI-231 of Castilla y León since 2020.

He earned his PhD from the University of Burgos in 2011 with a thesis on Iron Architecture and Engineering in the provinces of Burgos and Palencia (1830-1940), supervised by Dr. Juan Manuel Manso Villalaín and Dr. René Jesús Payo Hernanz. His doctoral work examined historical infrastructure development in northern Spain.

Dr. Serrano Lopez's research spans urban sustainability, civil engineering materials, and heritage conservation. Current work focuses on industrial waste reuse in construction materials and urban planning's impact on public health, reflecting his transition from materials science (2013-2018 ICCRAM period) to urban planning (since 2017). His methodology integrates engineering practice with policy analysis.

He has published 12 JCR-indexed articles including his highly cited 2013 work on chemical engineering processes (DOI: 10.1016/j.cep.2013.07.008), presented 11 conference communications (7 international), and authored one book chapter. His research demonstrates consistent output in sustainable construction materials since joining SUCONS in 2020.

Dr. Serrano Lopez co-directed one doctoral thesis (2015) and participated in regional, national, and European competitive projects through ICCRAM. He organized seven academic events (five international) and served as journal reviewer for 11 indexed publications. His grant activity centered on critical raw materials research during 2013-2018.

He contributed to establishing ICCRAM's laboratory infrastructure and high-performance computing systems. As a member of Consolidated Research Units UCI-154 (2015-2018) and UCI-231 (2020-present), he operates within Castilla y León's formal research framework for sustainable construction.
