Dr. Uwe Schneidewind is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham's School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). His research focuses on microplastics in freshwater sediments, water flow dynamics, and contaminant transport in streambeds and shallow aquifers. He holds a PhD from Ghent University (2016), an MSc from the University of Tübingen (2008), and a BSc from Brandenburg University of Technology (2006).
- Education:
- PhD in Applied Biological Sciences, Ghent University (2011–2016)
- MSc in Applied Environmental Geoscience, University of Tübingen (2006–2008)
- BSc in Environmental and Resource Management, Brandenburg University of Technology (2002–2006)
His research interests include unraveling water flow and contaminant processes in streambeds, hyporheic zones, and microplastic transport in riverine systems. Recent work emphasizes methodological advancements in microplastic sampling and global microplastic distribution studies.
Publications highlight interdisciplinary collaboration, with contributions to journals like Water Research, Journal of Hydrology, and Nature Water. His work addresses environmental challenges, including pollution mitigation and sustainable water management strategies.
He is a member of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and the German Geological Society's Hydrogeology Section (FH-DGGV).
