Professor Uradyn E. Bulag serves as Professor of Social Anthropology and Research Director of the Mongolia and Inner Asia Studies Unit (MIASU) at the University of Cambridge, where he is also a Fellow of Selwyn College. His academic work centers on the socio-political landscapes of Mongolia and Inner Asia, with emphasis on cultural heritage preservation and geopolitical dynamics in pastoral societies.
Bulag's research spans Mongolia and Inner Asia Studies, Social Anthropology, Buddhist textual traditions, and the political ecology of livestock economies. He leads the 'Trading Mongolia’s Sovereign Meat' project examining how livestock industry transformations reshape social structures and borderland geopolitics, alongside the 'Kalmyk Cultural Heritage Documentation Project' focused on preserving Mongolic cultural traditions in Russia. His work integrates anthropological fieldwork with historical analysis of ethnic relations in Inner Asia.
As Research Director of MIASU, Bulag oversees the Chinggis Khaan Grant program supporting Mongolia-focused research. He supervises PhD students in Social Anthropology through the Department of Social Anthropology, with institutional base at the Mond Building on Free School Lane. His work connects with MIASU's broader initiatives including the 'Transforming Technologies and Buddhist Book Culture' project and Inner Asia archival collections.
