Dr Una Foye is a Research Fellow at King's College London, affiliated with the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care and the Department of Health Service & Population Research. She holds a Doctor of Social Science from Ulster University (2015), an MSc in Counselling and Therapeutic Communication (2010), and a BSc in Psychology from Queen's University Belfast (2009). Her research focuses on mental health policy, eating disorders, suicide prevention, and the integration of lived experience into healthcare practice. Dr. Foye leads projects such as 'Consider Male Eating Disorders,' awarded the 2021 THE Research Project of the Year, and investigates body-worn cameras in mental health wards. She collaborates extensively on systematic reviews and mixed-methods studies addressing inpatient care, crisis management, and pandemic impacts on mental health.
Education: PhD (Ulster University, 2015), MSc (Counselling, 2010), BSc (Psychology, 2009). Affiliations include the NIHR Policy Research Unit in Mental Health and the BPS Faculty of Eating Disorders.
Research interests emphasize qualitative methodologies, inpatient service innovation, and gender-specific mental health interventions. Notable projects include genomic links between eating disorders and suicide, co-production in Recovery College courses, and evaluating alternative mental health service models.
Recent awards include the 2021 THE Award for collaborative work with the University of Nottingham. Current projects involve adapting Safewards protocols for emergency departments and exploring trauma-informed approaches in mental healthcare.
