Professor Sarah Byford is a Professor of Health Economics and Head of the Department of Health Service & Population Research at King's College London's Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience. She leads the King's Health Economics research group, specializing in economic evaluations of mental health and social care services for children, adolescents, and adults. Her work focuses on depression, eating disorders, PTSD, autism, psychosis, and perinatal mental health. She holds leadership roles in projects such as the BESST trial, DISCOVER research group, and the Eating Disorders Clinical Research Network.

Research Interests: Mental health economics, economic evaluation of healthcare programs, adolescent mental health interventions, perinatal mental health service analysis, and cost-effectiveness of treatments for eating disorders and addiction. She has pioneered studies on mindfulness-based interventions in schools (e.g., MYRIAD trial) and digital parenting support (SPARKLE trial).
Grants & Projects: Leads NIHR-funded research on mental health service evaluations, including the DAISIES trial on anorexia nervosa treatment and the CLEAR trial comparing clozapine efficacy in early psychosis. She has contributed to the development of capability wellbeing measures for children and cost-effectiveness analyses of maternal mental health units.
Labs/Teams: Director of King's Health Economics group, part of the DISCOVER research group, and the Eating Disorders Clinical Research Network (EDCRN).
