معرفی
Umesh Garg is a Professor in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Notre Dame. His research focuses on experimental investigations of compressional-mode giant resonances and exotic quantal rotation in nuclei, particularly exploring nuclear incompressibility and phenomena such as chiral rotation and wobbling motion in triaxial nuclei. He holds adjunct and guest professorships at institutions like BITS Pilani and Peking University.
Education: B.Sc. (1972), M.Sc. (1974) from BITS Pilani; M.A. (1975), Ph.D. (1978) from Stony Brook University.
Research Interests:
- Experimental nuclear physics, including giant resonances and nuclear incompressibility
- Triaxial nuclei and exotic rotational phenomena (e.g., chiral rotation, wobbling motion)
- Applications to astrophysics (neutron stars, supernovae)
- Nuclear structure at high angular momenta
Selected Honors:
- Fellow, AAAS and American Physical Society
- Fulbright Specialist Award (2015-2019)
- Recipient of the 2018 Faculty Award and 2006 Kaneb Teaching Award
Advising/Grants: Director of the Physics REU program since 2000; extensive collaborations with institutions like Argonne National Laboratory and RIKEN. His research has been supported by grants focusing on nuclear structure and collective phenomena.
Labs/Teams: Leads a research group at Notre Dame, contributing to high-energy nuclear experiments and theoretical collaborations.
