Umberto Martini is a Full Professor of Business Economics and Management at the University of Trento's Department of Economics and Management. He serves as the Rector's Delegate for Curricular Internships and Placement and leads the EMaSus research group focusing on sustainable tourism and territorial management. His career includes roles as Director of the Master of Tourism Management program and coordinator of EU-funded projects like LISTEN and Life+TEN. He holds a Laurea in Economics (summa cum laude) from the University of Trento (1988) and a PhD in Business Economics from the University of Venice (1994).
His research emphasizes sustainable destination management, stakeholder coordination, and the integration of environmental and economic strategies. Key areas include territorial marketing, eco-tourism, and the governance of tourism networks. He has coordinated initiatives such as the Trentino Ecological Network project, linking environmental conservation with tourism promotion.
Award-winning publications include studies on sustainable business models in hospitality SMEs and environmental strategies in the Province of Trento. He is a member of AIDEA, SIMA, and international tourism research associations, reviewing for journals like Annals of Tourism Research and Tourism Review. His teaching spans advanced marketing, tourism management, and cultural marketing courses.
He has advised on regional tourism policies and led the development of strategic programs for forest management agencies. Current leadership roles include President of the CUEIM Consortium and membership in provincial advisory committees for parks and protected areas.
