Dr. Umberto Gostoli is a Researcher at the MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit, University of Glasgow. He holds an MSc in European Studies from the London School of Economics (LSE) and a PhD in Economics from the University of Bologna. His postdoctoral work includes roles at the Polytechnic University of Marche, Italy, and international collaborations at the University of Southampton, University of Manchester, and National Chengchi University (Taiwan).
His research focuses on agent-based modeling (ABM) to study socio-economic systems and their impact on public health trends. Key areas include pandemic behavior during the COVID-19 crisis, social care provision in kinship networks, and complex systems science. He contributes to the Complexity in Health Improvement program and the Complex Systems Science workstream, developing models to analyze demographic, social, and economic factors influencing public health outcomes.
Dr. Gostoli’s publications span agent-based modeling applications in epidemiology, healthcare systems analysis, and social networks. His work emphasizes the integration of behavioral theories into computational models for practical health policy insights. Collaborations include the PHASE framework for population health modeling and studies on synthetic population generation.
