Ulrik Kohl is a Part-Time Lecturer at Roskilde University's Department of People and Technology and a doctoral researcher at Malmö University. He co-leads the Democratic Energy Transitions project and founded the COMET LAB, a transdisciplinary platform for energy transition research. His work bridges renewable energy, urban studies, and community-driven sustainability.

Research Focus: Kohl investigates local ownership models (municipal, cooperative, community) for accelerating clean energy transitions in the Nordics, Southeast Europe, and Colombia. His work emphasizes energy democracy, participatory planning, and grassroots innovation, particularly in urban contexts. He explores tensions between short-term prestige projects and long-term democratic accountability, as seen in his critique of Copenhagen's infrastructure priorities.
Global Collaborations: Kohl advises institutions like the Inter-American Development Bank and IOM (UN Migration Agency). He is affiliated with international networks including the Sustainability Transitions Research Network (STRN) and Empowered Futures Research School, fostering cross-regional knowledge exchange on energy transitions.
Teaching & Leadership: He supervises 18 degree projects in social science and technology and teaches courses in energy democratization. His leadership spans the Common Solar Futures project and collaborations with universities in Colombia, Chile, and Sweden.
