Ulrich Wollner is a Professor at the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts, Matej Bel University. His research focuses on Plato and Platonism, Political Philosophy, and Ancient Philosophy, with extensive publications analyzing dialogues like the Gorgias and figures such as Socrates and Callicles. He explores themes of shame, rhetoric, ethical leadership, and the capability approach in modern philosophy.
Wollner's recent work includes a 2023 study on the dual functions of shame in Plato's Gorgias and a 2018 analysis of leadership qualities in Callicles' triads. His 2017 book Prolegomena k Platónovmu dialógu Gorgias provides foundational insights into the dialogue. Earlier papers examine Lucretius' views on progress, Socrates' defense strategies, and comparisons between Pindar's poetry and historical interpretations.
His research bridges classical antiquity and contemporary ethical/political theory, emphasizing the relevance of Socratic methods to modern debates on freedom, governance, and moral philosophy. He has collaborated with scholars across institutions like University of Prešov, Comenius University, and the Slovak Academy of Sciences.
