Ulrich Richtmeyer

Ulrich Richtmeyer is a Professor of Media Culture Work at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam, leading the Cultural Work program since October 2017. He holds a position in the Department of Urban Planning | Construction | Culture. His academic background includes a Diploma in Fine Arts from the Bauhaus University Weimar (1993-1998), a PhD in Philosophy from Humboldt University Berlin (2006), and a Habilitation in Media Philosophy from the University of Potsdam (2016). He has held visiting professorships and research positions at institutions including the University of Potsdam, IKKM Weimar, and Eikones Basel.

His research focuses on media philosophy, visual culture, and the intersection of technology and humanity. Key projects include the Vilém Flusser Summer Schools in France and critical editions of Julien Offray de La Mettrie's works. He explores topics like Wittgenstein's visual thinking, biometric imaging, and digital culture critique through interdisciplinary lenses.

Richtmeyer's teaching emphasizes contemporary media theory, covering areas such as media aesthetics, digital cultures, and technical cultures. He has authored monographs on Wittgenstein's image philosophy and Kant's aesthetics, alongside numerous peer-reviewed articles addressing visual epistemology, media ethics, and technological posthumanism.
