Ulrich Pfisterer is a Full Professor of the History of Early Modern European Art at Ludwig Maximilians University Munich since 2008. Elected to the Academia Europaea in 2014, he specializes in early modern art history, theory, and global exchange. His affiliations include the University of Hamburg (2002–2006) and LMU Munich.
- Education: Ph.D. (Dr. phil.) from the University of Göttingen (1997), Habilitation at the University of Hamburg (2006).
Research interests focus on the theory and historiography of art history, early modern European art, and the intersection of artistic creativity with cultural and religious exchange. His work bridges disciplinary gaps between art history, gender studies, and material culture.
Publications span books on Donatello, Renaissance art theory, Renaissance medals, the Sistine Chapel, and artistic creativity as forms of love and procreation in early modern Europe. Thematic trends include global Renaissance exchange, visual rhetoric, and the historiography of art.
