Ulrich L. M. Eisel is a Full Professor in Molecular Neurobiology and Neuroimmunology at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Science and Engineering, affiliated with the Groningen Institute for Evolutionary Life Sciences (GELIFES). His research focuses on neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, investigating TNF signaling pathways. He holds editorial roles at journals like Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease and advises organizations such as Alzheimer Nederland and the MS Stichting.
Education: PhD (summa cum laude) from Justus-Liebig University (1989), postdoctoral training at NIH (USA) and University of Stuttgart. Academic roles include tenure-track Assistant Professor (2003-2008), Associate Professor (2009-2019), and Full Professor since 2019.
Research Interests: Molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration, TNF's role in neuroprotection, and translational therapies. Active in behavioral biology and aging studies, emphasizing inflammation's role in neuronal dysfunction. Key projects include TNFR2 agonist therapies and lipocalin-2 targeting.
Grants & Projects: Leads initiatives like 'Peripheral Targeting of TNFR1' (Alzheimer Nederland, 2022-2026) and 'ARTOS Clinical Development' (2023-2025). Supervised over 20 PhD students, with ongoing collaborations at UMCG, University of Cape Town, and BioNTech.
Labs/Teams: Eisel Lab - Molecular Neurobiology and Neuroimmunology, focusing on TNF signaling and neurodegenerative disease models.
