Ulisse Aldrovandi (1522–1605) was a renowned naturalist and professor at the University of Bologna, specializing in natural philosophy, botany, and classical studies. He held academic positions in Logic (1554), Philosophy (1555–1559), Botany (1556–1561), and Natural Philosophy (1561–1600). Aldrovandi established Bologna’s first botanical garden (1568) and amassed an extensive natural history collection, donated to the city upon his death.
Education: Studied humanities/law in Bologna (1539), then philosophy/mathematics/medicine at Padua University. Earned a degree in Medicine and Philosophy (1553).
Research Interests: Focused on systematic natural history, botany, zoology, and classical antiquities. His work blended empirical observation with encyclopedic documentation, creating a 'microcosm of nature' through global specimen collections.
