Ulf Jeppsson is a Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Lund University, affiliated with the LTH Profile Area: Water. His work focuses on mathematical modeling, simulation, and control strategies for urban wastewater systems, with a particular emphasis on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and nutrient recovery. He has led national and international initiatives including the VA-kluster Mälardalen research cluster and the IWA Task Group on GHG.
- Chairman of IWA Specialist Group on Modelling and Integrated Assessment (1900+ members)
- National Coordinator for EU COST Action Water_2020
- Former Associate Editor for Water Research (2009-2016)
Jeppsson's research aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals 6 (Clean Water), 11 (Sustainable Cities), and 13 (Climate Action). His work spans digital twin applications, heat recovery from wastewater, and benchmarking control strategies for treatment plants, often integrating uncertainty-based analysis and plant-wide modeling approaches.
Recent publications highlight innovations in data transfer for digital twins and system-wide benchmarking frameworks. He collaborates extensively through projects like LU Water and System-wide Benchmark Simulation Model, funded by Swedish Government Agency for Innovation Systems (Vinnova). Jeppsson also chairs the IWA Strategic Council committee for specialist group interactions and organized the Watermatex2019 conference in Copenhagen.
- Scientific Awards
- IWA Fellow (2012)
- Leadership Roles
- National Coordinator, EU COST Action Water_2020
- Chair, IWA Specialist Group on Modelling (2017)
- Co-organizer, Watermatex2019
His projects emphasize collaborative networks across 20+ countries, with over 186 research outputs and 3 PhD/Master's supervisees. Current work includes digital twin implementation and GHG emission quantification in urban water systems.
