Ulf Ekelund

Professor Ulf Ekelund holds the position of Professor in Physical Activity and Health at the Department of Sport Medicine, Norwegian School of Sport Sciences in Oslo. Previously, he served as Senior Investigator Scientist in the Physical Activity Programme at the MRC Epidemiology Unit, University of Cambridge until March 2017.

His research examines physical activity measurement, population-level activity patterns, and the preventive role of physical activity against non-communicable diseases including obesity and metabolic disorders. A particular focus involves investigating biological mechanisms underlying physical activity and sedentary behavior in youth populations.

Professor Ekelund earned his PhD from Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm (2002) and has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications in journals including The Lancet, JAMA, and PLOS Medicine, with a Web of Science H-index of 51.
