Ulf Ekelund is a Professor at Lund University's Department of Emergency Medicine, serving as consultant Professor, Supervisor, and Head of office. His research is conducted through the EpiHealth: Epidemiology for Health network where he manages a Lund-based research team, with active collaborations across Swedish healthcare regions and international partners.
His research spans emergency medicine diagnostics, AI-driven decision support, and healthcare operations. Key projects include improving acute coronary syndrome risk stratification, AI-based emergency triage systems (via AIR Lund collaboration), medical checklist efficacy studies with Region Skåne's Practicum center, and emergency department crowding analysis with Region Östergötland. His work directly contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
Recent publications (2024-2025) reveal a dominant focus on AI applications for dyspnea diagnosis in emergency settings, trauma care quality improvement, and national registry development.
