Jonas Björk is a Professor at the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Lund University. He is also affiliated with the Centre for Economic Demography, EpiHealth, eSSENCE: The e-Science Collaboration, Infect@LU, and the LU Profile Area: Nature-based future solutions. His research integrates epidemiology, machine learning, and public health to improve clinical and population-level outcomes.
His research focuses on methodological challenges in epidemiological studies, particularly validity, selection bias, and clinical prediction modeling. He explores how machine learning applied to Sweden’s national register data can enhance prevention, diagnosis, and prognosis of cardiometabolic diseases, while also addressing ethical and legal concerns. He investigates the health effects of outdoor environments, including traffic noise, air pollution, and green/blue spaces, on chronic diseases and well-being. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals in health and sustainable cities.
Recent research publications demonstrate a strong trend in AI-driven clinical decision support, pandemic preparedness, environmental epidemiology, and pharmacoepidemiology. His studies employ advanced statistical and machine learning techniques, often using nationwide cohort and register data to address public health challenges with high validity and generalizability.
