معرفی
Ulf Büntgen is a Professor of Environmental Systems Analysis at the Department of Geography, University of Cambridge, UK. He also holds positions as a Senior Scientist at the Swiss Federal Research Institute WSL and Faculty Member at Masaryk University, Czech Republic. His work focuses on climate dynamics, dendroecology, and paleoenvironmental reconstructions using tree rings and other proxies. Büntgen conducts fieldwork globally to study environmental systems and their responses to climatic changes.
Education:
- PhD (2006): University of Bern, Switzerland
- Habilitation (2011): University of Bern, Switzerland
- Master's (2003): University of Bonn, Germany
- Undergraduate (1999–2003): University of Bonn
Research Interests: Büntgen explores climate variability, tree growth-climate relationships, and environmental reconstructions over millennia. His work integrates dendrochronology, isotopic analysis, and ecological studies to understand drivers of environmental change. Key areas include Arctic driftwood provenance, Alpine ibex ecology, and the climatic triggers of historical events like the Black Death.
Advising & Collaborations: He supervises PhD students and collaborates with institutions worldwide, including the PAGES initiative and the CzechGlobe Research Institute. His research spans projects like the PALEO project (Czech Republic) and studies linking tree rings to plague outbreaks.
Labs & Teams: Member of the Climate and Environmental Dynamics and Biogeography groups at Cambridge. Active in interdisciplinary projects, such as the Dahliagram tool for human-environmental interaction analysis.
