UMUT TÜRKER

Prof. Umut Turker is the Department Head of Civil Engineering at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU). He holds a PhD in Water Engineering from Istanbul Technical University (2002), an MS in Civil Engineering from Middle East Technical University (1998), and a BS in Civil Engineering from the same institution (1995). His research focuses on coastal engineering, hydrology, and environmental fluid mechanics with applications in water resources management and hydraulic structures.

Key research interests include wave energy conversion, sediment transport dynamics, drought impact analysis, and coastal protection strategies. He has supervised multiple PhD and master’s theses on topics such as debris flow mitigation, vegetation effects on hydraulic systems, and water budget modeling.

Recent publications highlight advancements in understanding coastal erosion mechanisms, improving water resource management through fuzzy logic frameworks, and evaluating drought resilience in agriculture. He leads projects like the DRASTIC framework for groundwater vulnerability assessment and debris flow impact analyses. Awards include the 2024 National Architecture and Landscape Art Award from Şampiyon Melekleri Yaşatma Derneği.
