At BME, he has held the position of Professor since 1998 and served as Head of the Department of Stochastics (1998–2012), Director of the Institute of Mathematics (2005–2009), and Head of the Graduate School of Mathematics and Computer Science (2009–2012). Concurrently, he is a Professor and Chair of Probability at the University of Bristol’s School of Mathematics (2012–present). He is an external, part-time member of the Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences since 2013.
His research focuses on stochastic processes, probability theory, and statistical physics, encompassing topics like random walks, interacting particle systems, and fluctuations in complex systems. He has made significant contributions to understanding randomness in space and time, with applications in both classical and quantum statistical physics.
He has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Szele Tibor Memorial Medal (2010), Knight’s Cross of the Hungarian Republic (2009), and the Paul Erdős Prize (1994). His leadership roles at BME and international conference plenary speaking engagements underscore his academic influence.
