Tyler Varisco is an Assistant Professor in the Health Outcomes Division and Director of the Pharmacy Addictions Research & Medicine Program at the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy. He holds a Pharm.D. from the University of Texas at Austin and a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Health Outcomes and Policy from the University of Houston College of Pharmacy.
His research focuses on improving healthcare quality for individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD), addressing systemic barriers in pharmacies and provider settings. He led the development of the Pharmacy Access to Resources and Medication for Opioid Use Disorder Practice Guideline, a consensus-based resource to enhance medication access in community pharmacies. Dr. Varisco also serves as a subject matter expert for the revision of SAMHSA’s Treatment Improvement Protocol 63, guiding policies for medications in OUD treatment.
His work emphasizes policy interventions to promote equitable access to behavioral health treatments. Collaborations include partnerships with the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy and the National Community Pharmacists Association.
