Li-Tzy Wu is a Professor in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University School of Medicine. She directs the Duke Community Based Substance Use Disorder Research Program and leads multiple NIH-funded projects addressing opioid use disorder (OUD) prevention, treatment integration, and health disparities. Her research portfolio includes UG1 grants from NIDA examining pharmacy-based care models, electronic health record systems, and clinical trial networks.
Wu's research focuses on improving screening, intervention, and treatment systems for substance use disorders, with emphasis on opioid misuse, polysubstance use, and chronic disease comorbidity. Her work develops and validates screening instruments (e.g., TAPS Tool), implements substance use services in primary care and pharmacy settings, and examines effectiveness of collaborative care models.
Analysis of Wu's publications reveals consistent themes: health services innovation for substance use disorders, reduction of treatment barriers, addressing racial/ethnic disparities, and practical implementation research. Her studies employ diverse methodologies including randomized trials, cohort analyses, psychometric validation, survey research, and stakeholder engagement. Recent work focuses on expanding medication treatment access through community pharmacies and optimizing care during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wu's research has significantly influenced national priorities for OUD treatment access, evidenced by leadership roles in NIDA Clinical Trials Network task forces and consensus development for core outcome measures in OUD research.
