Tyler T. Schmidt is an Associate Professor of English at Lehman College, City University of New York, and teaches American Studies at the CUNY Graduate Center. He holds a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, M.A. from Teachers College, Columbia University, and Ph.D. from the CUNY Graduate Center. Dr. Schmidt served as co-coordinator of Lehman's Writing Across the Curriculum program during 2008-2015 and 2018-2019.
His research examines African American literature through frameworks of race, sexuality, and regionalism, with particular interest in the cultural borders of the Chicago Black Renaissance and queer artistic production in mid-20th century America.
